Deathbowl to Downtown, Part 2. May 09, 2008

(Steve Rodriguez and Nardelli. Creating, writing and designing the next pages of New York City Skate History. Respect. Don't Hate)
After the thursday evening festivities of movie and a party at the tunnel, Friday night was an evening of photographs via photo art show, live music and more beverages! The venue for this second day's event was at the Etnies Showroom in Soho, New York.

(YO! Scotty Schwartz, Taji and Hamilton Harris. New York)
Needless to say, the party was two floors of super dope blast from the past! Of course EVERYONE was out for the event, even though it rained and it was packing with mad heads and walls filled with art of thirty seven+ artists, exhibiting the photos from the 1970's to 2000's! What can you say about an event that boasts mad historical presidence and a listing of contributors that reads like the Metropolitan Museum of Art for Skateboarding in New York City Archives?! I couldn't take the photos to represent all those in attendence because I have to say, I feel like a dork trying to get in everyone's grills just for me. I could not even describe to you what it would be like for a reader who reads this who never experienced the skating here in this great metropolis. Everyone is always mad humble. Sometimes not. Everyone loves skating. Everyone is your friend because everyone knows everyone else.. at least in generation. And if you don't know, believe me, this scene is not so big that you would not eventually get to know them. At least if you are yourself and not some wack ass faker. The attendence record in these two days events I witnessed, it was for me like sacred grounds, like play grounds and special society grounds. I have the upmost respect and I love this skateboarding culture. It amazes me and my perspective is like the sideline cheering guy or reserve team reserves guy. I am hoping for the thirty year reunion and the fourty year reunion, etc. etc. Even I sound corny writing this, it's all good to me. That is just how it is.

(Hamilton Harris, Chris Keefe, Rodney Torres, Mike Ming, KKevin, Keith Hufnagel)
Congratulations and Mad Props to Ivory Serra for manning the helm with curating the show. The photographers included in the show reads like this... Alex Corporan, Allen Ying, Andy Kessler, Bill Thomas, Bobby Puleo, Brian Lentini, Brian Uyeda, Bryce Kanights, Cameron Martin, Charlie Samuels (with long time friend, Joe Humeres)

Dan Pensyl,

(not dan, but Coach Louie.www.Skateboardingschool.com)
Dennis McGrath, Dimitri Elyashkevich, Geoff Graham, Gerhard Stochl, Giovanni Reda, Glen E. Friedman, Henry Chalfant, Irene Ching, Ivory Serra, Jocko Weyland, Jessica Bard, John McGrath, Lance Dawes, Larry Clark, Martha Cooper, Mike O'Meally, Miki Vuckovich, Patrick O'Dell, Rodney Smith, Shelly Seccombe, Ted Newsome, Thomas Campbell, Tobin Yelland, Wesley Bocxe, Yuri Shibuya,

(not Yuri, cause she was is TKO)
and Zach Malsakowalski. There were art works featured from Jeremy Henderson's Loft from the Stanton Street Vault

( for example, A CLASSIC SHUT JERMEY HENDERSON! complete with Herbie SkateWork rails?! Vintage late 1980's~ish!)
and Live Musical Performance by Alex Blake Quartet. There was even a Special Dance Floor Killer from San Francisco, TONY STYLES and Hiro Kurata, SUN!

If you missed the event, you missed something that was a reunion special. I also feel (and hope) like there will be a few more shows of this caliber and maybe even a few more shows that will spawn out of this one show.. for example, the ' I gots another perspective in the New York City skate scene show' or the ' we the next kids show' or ' some s*#t I'VE seen scene' show. Besides, New York City is THE art center, it's appropriate New York City should set the bar for other upcoming and biting and profiling shows like, ' My Scene was like this' show or the 'It was like that, it's like this' show in anywhere around the world. I Love NY! It will always happen here first, even if doesn't! THAT's the magic of NEW YORK, SUN! Keep Shining!
